About Oxana

You really don't have to be young to find a friend in a Teddy bear.

Rachel Newman

Hello, my name is Oxana.

I have been making Teddy Bears and dolls since 2008. I took several courses in Teddy Bear making in Moscow. After I realized how much this subject interested me, I read lots of  books about it and educated myself further. First, I was a student, then became an instructor too. I am so proud of my students, as they learn absolutely new skills,  a lot of knowledge, blend them with their personalities and create something unique and beautiful.

I'm still learning too, and this is one of the reasons why I like Teddy Bears - I can never say: "That's enough, I know everything!" I use new and very old technique in my works - embroidery, knitting, crocheting, sculpting, etc. Teddy Bear making always inspires me to learn something else - spinning, traditional Japanese embroidery Sashiko, quilts, felting. All these skills become colours in my palette, using them makes one-of-a-kind work.

Several years ago I moved to Canada and found the richest sources of inspiration - the incredible beauty of nature and deep traditions brought from different countries that have been carefully kept throughout generations. Old things with the flavour of history, more or less worn, made me research restoration, which is now a big part of what I do. I like to give old Teddy Bears and dolls one more chance.

Apart from a number of handcrafting supplies, my home is filled with books and plants. I enjoy gardening, and a new rose makes me happy almost as much as creating a new Teddy.
